Plot details follow.

While the boys are hanging out and playing with R/C cars, a group of kids from Orange County arrives and dance in front of them, thus serving them. The group of kids leaves after trash-talking Stan and the boys, who are left confused by the entire confrontation. The kids talk to Chef, themselves oblivious of what being served entails. Chef immediately shows concern and calls their parents to inform them about the ordeal. Later, over dinner, Randy Marsh gets upset that his son, Stan, was served and teaches him to dance back—a few very basic line dancing steps to the tune of Billy Ray Cyrus' "Achy Breaky Heart".

The next time the Orange County kids attempt to serve the boys, Stan serves them back, switching CDs on the boombox so he can dance to "Achy Breaky Heart". Cartman informs the Orange County kids that they just "...got F'd in the A." The Orange County kids then declare that "it's on", meaning that there is now a dance contest to be played: the Orange County kids versus the best dancers in South Park. Sharon Marsh pressures Randy over telling his son to dance back, thus leading to it being on, and therefore he goes to the Orange County team to apologize and make it clear that it is not on. Instead, The Orange County Crew Coach takes this as a challenge and serves Randy with exceptional dance moves. Randy winds up in the hospital seemingly physically injured with the worst case of being served that the doctors have ever seen. Stan is then forced to search for dancers after being told by Randy to "avenge him" (Eminem's "Lose Yourself" begins to play in the background as Stan stands there).

Stan goes out to find the town's best dancers: one of the Goth Kids, Michael; an Asian kid, Yao, who is a Dance Dance Revolution expert (yet allegedly cannot dance without the machine); and Mercedes, one of the Raisins Girls. Needing a fifth member for the group, Mercedes suggests Butters Stotch, who was once Colorado's tap-dancing champion. Yet when they ask him to join, Butters runs away screaming. It is revealed via flashback that, two years previously, his shoe had flown off during the national Tap-Dancing Finals, hit a stage light in the rafters, and led to an extremely gruesome chain of events that left eight people in the audience dead (11 in total because one woman was pregnant and two others committed suicide after the tragedy). This was all started by Butters dancing to the upbeat (and risqué) tune of "I've Got Something In My Front Pocket". Butters flatly refuses to participate in the show, even after further pressing. The team instead has to settle for a dancing duck named Jeffy from a local farm that has not danced to any rock songs, only songs about drug abuse and sex that the farmer plays, all to modified lyrics of the song "The Crawdad Song" (i.e. the lyric "You get a line and I'll get a pole" is now "You do a line and I'll do a line", and "You snort K and I'll snort K, honey").

On the day of the performance, Jeffy sprains his ankle during practice, and the team looks like it would be forced to forfeit without a fifth member. However, Butters suddenly shows up in his tap-dancing outfit just in time, and the kids are able to perform. When they do, Butters' shoe flies off again and hits a stage light, causing the rafter of lights to fall on and kill the entire Orange County team. Though Butters is horrified by this, the South Park team wins by default, and a blood-stained, screaming and horribly traumatized Butters is carried off and hailed as a hero.
