Synopsis

There is a new principal at the helm of South Park Elementary. He forces the boys to confront the damage they’ve done through their history of racism and unconscious bias. It is the most stunning and brave South Park ever.

Plot

Plot details follow.

Mr. Mackey calls a parent/teacher/student assembly of South Park Elementary to inform the audience that Principal Victoria has been fired due to her not taking action against a student referring to rape as a "hot Cosby" and is replaced by PC Principal, a bully who threatens to change South Park and make people aware of their racism and bigotry over the past few Seasons (including the death, presumed suicide, of Chef). Kyle is immediately given two weeks of detention for saying that Caitlyn Jenner is not a hero for having gender reassignment surgery. Kyle's father, Gerald Broflovski, attempts to aid in Kyle's defense, but when Gerald refers to Caitlyn Jenner by her former name Bruce Jenner, PC Principal becomes violent and throws them both out of his office. Gerald, Randy Marsh, Stuart McCormick, Stephen Stotch and others talk about the new school principal and Caitlyn at a new college bar called Crunchy's Micro Brew. They are accosted by violent, politically correct PC Bros and forced to refer to Caitlyn as "stunning and brave".

The PC Bros, who all refer to themselves as PC move in together and form the PC Delta. At school, Kyle, Stan, Kenny, and Butters attempt to convince Cartman to break the rules like Cartman's hero, the New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Inspired, Cartman meets PC Principal in the restroom and uses Butters' underwear to attempt to frame him for child molestation. However, by simply stating the word "capiche" along with other trigger words, PC Principal violently assaults Cartman while his friends watch on in horror.

Randy goes to the fraternity house after witnessing the party and is inadvertently pledged into the group forced to consume large amounts of alcohol. In the hospital, Cartman is ready to give up and accept that he and the rest of the gang are bigots, but Kyle refuses to accept this and believes even more that Caitlyn Jenner is a phony. Randy and the other pledges shame Kyle by waking him to a room full of pigs painted with the word "biggit" [sic].

After a dream where Cartman believes he is Tom Brady and avoiding the Deflategate scandal, Cartman pledges to Butters that he will be newer and better. Kyle asks Stan to make Randy and his PC gang stop assaulting him. When Butters tells Cartman that Kyle is now the main target of the PC frat members, Cartman plans to take them out- condescendingly noting that while he doesn't agree with Kyle's "bigoted" ideas, he refuses to sit by when such intolerance is dealt with aggressively. Cartman and others begin an assault on the frat house with 200 Pregnant Mexican Women, Taco Cannons, Syrian Refugee Children and Jared Fogle. Kyle interrupts, calling Caitlyn Jenner a hero and brave. Everyone applauds Kyle including a clip from the 2015 ESPY Awards. The gang begrudgingly admits that PC is staying as Kyle observes that the only person who seems to have come out a winner was Cartman, just like his hero, Tom Brady. Cartman then sardonically tells Kyle that he is going home to "fuck his hot wife, who kind of looks like a dude."

Critical Reception

AV Club gave "Stunning and Brave" a "B-" rating saying: "Turns out the answer is none of the above. Despite the press tease and title of the episode, “Stunning And Brave” has little to do with Jenner specifically (we never even get to see her), and everything to do with the huge umbrella of outrage culture. When Principal Victoria gets fired for using the term “Hot Cosby,” she’s replaced by the PC Principal: a tightly wound frat guy who enforces political correctness with the same aggression he’d use to haze a new pledge or shotgun a Natty Light. He’s not alone either—there’s a whole fraternity’s worth of white PC bros looking to bust some skulls whenever someone shows anything that’s not unadulterated sensitivity towards the entire human race (as with every other new trend, Randy Marsh is the first to join their ranks). The hackles of their fur stand especially high when it comes to Jenner, whom they believe everyone must worship as an icon who’s beyond reproach. This naturally causes problems for Cartman and, more surprisingly, Kyle, when the two boys don’t join in on the excitement surrounding the retired athlete and her gender."[2]

IGN gave "Stunning and Brave" a "7.8" rating saying: "South Park's latest episode took on political correctness with scathing wit and truly outrageous moments. (PC people vs. pregnant Mexican women vs. Syrian refugee children vs. Jared the Subway Guy -- need we say more?) While its attempts at humor didn't elicit big laughs from me, the subject matter was spot-on, and the creators made some great points along the way. It will also be interesting to see how this storyline plays into subsequent episodes, if it does at all."[3]
