South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut

From South Park Archives

South Park: Bigger, Longer, & Uncut is the first and only South Park feature film to date.

It was released in the United States and in Canada on June 30, 1999, and received positive reviews saying it was brilliant in it's own twisted way (though it amassed only $85 million in box office, which is low for a feature film). It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Song, for "Blame Canada".

The film contains many underlying messages, including censorship lessons, and that you should accept what is your fault, and not try to blame it on someone else.

The film was also a musical, and contains many memorable songs.

[edit] Plot

The film opens with the innocent-looking Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Kenny McCormick, Eric Cartman and Kyle's adopted Canadian brother Ike Broflovski going to see the Canadian Terrance and Phillip movie Asses of Fire. Although they have enough money to buy their tickets, they are forbidden to go see the movie, which, because of its R-rating, consists almost entirely of crude jokes, constant flatulence humor and excessively strong language. Wanting to see the movie, the boys hire a homeless man to buy tickets for them. This ploy is a success. By the end of the movie everybody except the children has left the cinema, considering the movie to be vulgar. Later, at Stark's Pond, the boys impress their classmates by imitating the movie's strong language, causing all the children to want to see the movie as well. Afterward, Wendy Testaburger skates over to Stan and introduces Gregory of Yardale who Stan thinks Wendy is in love with.

The next day at school, the whole class has seen the movie, and Cartman, Kyle, Stan, and Kenny get sent to the school counsellor, Mr. Mackey, after repeating the obscenities to Mr. Garrison and using Fuck and Shit. In the counsellor's office, Mr. Mackey tells the boys that he has called the boys' mothers, and tries to find out where the language originated from. The boys' mothers arrive and Cartman reveals that they heard them in "Asses of Fire" and tried to ban the film. Later in the cafeteria, Chef tells Stan that to get girls to like him, he must find the clitoris, which Stan believes is a mythical monster, rather than a female sexual organ.

After watching the film again, Cartman and Kenny argue over whether it is possible to light farts on fire like Terrance does in the movie. Kenny tries it and bursts into flames. Cartman panics and hits Kenny with a stick, after which Kenny gets covered with a pile of salt from the back of a truck. Kenny later dies because Doctor Gouache accidentally replaced his heart with a baked potato. Kenny's soul tries to get into Heaven, but his access is denied and he ends up in [[Hell]].

After hearing that the boys went to the movie again, their parents ground them. The news of Kenny's death prompts Sheila Broflovski and other mothers to form "Mothers Against Canada" and instead of simply banning the show in the united states like they should, they arrest Terrence and Phillip on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. At the United Nations talks, the problem escalates when the Americans blatantly and rudely refuse to return Terrance and Phillip (the us representative gives the ambassador the bird and says "Fuck Canada") despite the plea from the Canadian ambassador saying that their economy depends on Terrance and Phillip and then laughs at his accent. The Canadians, who are angered by this, respond by bombing the residence of the Baldwin brothers. President Bill Clinton then declares war on Canada and orders the execution of "war criminals" Terrance and Phillip within two days. When Sheila Broflovski, who has become the U.S. Secretary of Offence, overhears Cartman singing "Kyle's Mom's a B*tch". At the end of Kyle's Mom's a Bitch she forces him to have a V-Chip placed in his brain by Doctor Vosknocker in order to prevent him from using profanity and swearing, much to his chagrin.

Meanwhile in Hell, Satan is torturing Kenny when Saddam Hussein appears and reveals that he is Satan's lover. When Satan discovers that a war has started on Earth, he says with delight that it has been prophesied that he can return to earth once the blood of "the innocent" touches the ground. Saddam makes no secret of the fact that he wants to rule the Earth (as well as do nothing but have sex with Satan, which Satan doesn't want), but Satan cannot stand up to him. Kenny suggests that Satan leave Saddam, and although Satan agrees with Kenny's suggestion, he cannot bring himself to do it, and they agree to go to the surface together.

With Terrance and Phillip set to be executed, Kyle, Stan, and Cartman decide to form "[[La Resistance (Organization)|La Resistance]]" and get the message out to the children of South Park, with the promise of punch and pie. At the meeting the boys are surprised to see Gregory, who can help. The gang's speech does not impress the rest of the children until Gregory (who knows what the boys are trying to say) comes up with a daring plan to rescue Terrance and Phillip. Stan, who is concerned that Wendy will like him more than Gregory if he is more "political" and volunteers to go on the mission. Stan, Kyle, and Cartman are sent to find "The Mole," a French boy. He agrees to help them rescue Terrance and Phillip, who are to be executed in the electric chair during a USO show. With Canadians being taken away to "death camps", Kyle is forced to hide his adopted Canadian brother Ike in his attic.

The USO show begins, and the boys begin to carry out the plan. Cartman, tasked with turning off the power shortly before the execution begins, is frightened when the ghost of Kenny warns him that Saddam and Satan are coming. Cartman runs away without turning off the power, causing the Mole to be spotted and mortally wounded by guard dogs. Kyle and Stan desperately run to the stage to prevent the execution, but Kyle cannot bring himself to stand up to his mom. Sheila Broflovski orders it to start.

Suddenly a Canadian attack begins. Cartman rushes to turn off the electric chairs and receives a mild jolt that causes the V-chip to malfunction. The Americans and Canadians start battling each other. Stan runs after Terrance and Phillip, but a bomb goes off and the splash damage sends Stan flying face first into a puddle. He regains consciousness and finds the "clitoris" which in this case turns out to be an all-knowing entity resembling a gigantic disembodied version of the female organ. The clitoris tells him to save Terrance and Phillip. He asks about Wendy, and the clitoris tells him to be confident because "chicks love confidence". Sheila and the other members of M.A.C watches the war saying this is what they wanted for their children, but the other members leave angrily saying it's gone to far. Terrance and Phillip try to escape but the American forces and Mrs. Broflovski corner them.

Just as they are about to be killed, Stan, Kyle, and the rest of "La Resistance" stand in front of them. Kyle finally decides to stand up to his mom and says he wants her to stop fighting all these battles and just be his mom, and that she shouldn't blame Canada because it's his fault that he saw the movie in the first place. The American forces, seeing that Kyle has a point, decided not to fight any more, but Sheila angrily refuses to admit she was wrong and shoots Terrance and Phillip in the head. When their blood touches the ground, Satan and Saddam burst out from Hell and begin wreaking havoc, followed by Kenny, who takes advantage of the situation to return to Earth. At that point, Sheila is shocked to see what she has done to the Earth. Later on, Satan is quickly pushed aside by Saddam. The American forces try to kill Saddam by shooting him, but his body is bulletproof. Saddam then makes everyone, including the Canadian and American forces, bow down to him while Satan watches. Kenny insists to Satan that he stand up to Saddam right now, but Satan says he can't. As havoc breaks loose, Saddam orders a big statue of himself, exactly where Cartman (who Saddam calls a fat kid) is standing. Cartman discovers that the jolt to the V-chip gave him the power to shoot electricity from his hands whenever he swears, which he does with gusto, and attacks Saddam with a multiple massive bursts of energy for calling him fat. Saddam calls for Satan to help to kill Cartman, but Satan, who knows that it is the right time, takes Kenny's advice, angrily confronts Saddam, and kills him by throwing him upon a pointed, jagged rock in Hell.

Satan thanks Kenny for his help and offers him one wish. Kenny wishes for everything to return to how it was before the war, even though that means he will go back to Hell. Satan grants his wish and returns to Hell, taking Mr. Garrison's puppet Mr. Hat as his new friend, and everything returns to normal. Sheila apologizes to Kyle for not paying attention to him and decides to end her anti-Canadian protest for good. Wendy suddenly kisses Stan, saying she never liked Gregory. Canada and the United States become friends again, and everyone sings a song about their happy ending. In the final scene, Kenny's tremendous act of self-sacrifice in giving up his soul to Hell to save the entire world leads to his being allowed to enter Heaven.

A brief "bonus scene" after the credits shows Ike eating a mouse while waiting in the attic for his mom to return.

[edit] Trivia

  • When Kenny is denied access to heaven, he falls down to hell. You can see a sign saying "Heaven" as he falls, and the sign says that the population of heaven is 1,656. The population for hell, however, increases from 923,545,421,207 to 923,545,421,267 and Counting (possibly due to others dieing at the same time going to hell).
  • Jesus is seen 3 times in the movie, 1st time in the crowd pan in the briefing room to the left of Officer Barbrady and then seen in the army in the marching scene before Kyle hides Ike in the attic and finally right at the back of the crowd scene at the end.
  • During the opening song, Kenny wakes up and is in his underwear and seen from behind, making it the first time his hair is seen (though if you freeze frame at the point where he zips his hood up, you can see a lock of his hair and his mouth).
  • Barbra Streisand's name is said as a swear word by Eric Cartman during the fight between him and Saddam.
  • Kenny removes his hood when he makes his wish at the end of the movie. This is the first time his face is seen in full and the first time his voice is clearly heard. Kenny was voiced by Mike Judge.
  • The main tagline was Uh-Oh.
  • When Gregory was sharing his plan with the others, it used the same map as used in the episode "Cartmans Mom is Still a Dirty Slut"
  • During the scene where everyone is meeting for "La Resistance" ,there is a kid resembling Clyde but has longer bangs and longer hair in the back.
  • When the message comes out about Terrance & Phillip shirts are banned in the school and that everyone that wears a shirt is to be send home, all the kids runs home. Kenny, however, is not wearing a Terrance & Phillip shirt but still he goes home.
  • Damien, a character from the episode with the same name and the son of Satan, is seen at the Terrance & Philip movie when the kids watches it the second time. He's sitting on the left of Stan.

[edit] Goofs

  • Mr. Hat is seen going back to hell with Satan, but his very next appearance is back with Mr. Garrison in the crowd.
  • When the children leave the movie theater after the rehab session you can see the rear of Bebe exiting through the doors but Bebe is still in her seat.
  • Cartman is somehow able to say the word "shit" without his v-chip reacting during the song "What Would Brian Boitano Do?", although, since Cartman was offscreen at the time, he may have not been singing, for example, during the "La Resistance" medley.
  • On the board behind Mr. Garrison when the students are all saying fuck, there is the letter F on the alphabet and it says F you in refrence to the word fuck.
  • While Cartman is singing his popular "Kyles Mom is a Bitch", when Terrance Mephisto runs past with the other children, the yellow stripes on his shirt are gone.
  • When Mr. Mackey anounces over the speaker in the cafeteria that all children must be sent home imediatly, Kenny can be seen running with them. However he wasn't wearing anything Terrance and Phillip.
  • When the boys talk to Chef in the cafateria Terrance Mephisto and Rebeca can be seen leaving with their lunch and have Terrance and Phillip shirts on. When Chef says "Hello there children", they can be seen but they have their ordinary cloths and no Terrance and Phillip shirts. In the next seen when the boys walk up to Chef, they (Terrance and Rebecca) walk away but with their Terrance and Phillip shirts on.
  • When the boys prepare to watch Terrance & Phillip Asses of Fire Kyle asks Cartman for candy, pay attention to Stan's drink, it changes from being held by Stan to being placed on his theatre seat.
  • During the "La Resistance" song, Craig is seen behind Token in one part but disappears, only to reappear seconds later.
  • At the Mole's reprise, Kyle says he has no idea where they are. However, in Mountain town (reprise), which is sung in the same place, the town can be clearly seen in the background.
  • When the boys are at the cinema, both times, you notice that the back of the seats ar higher than the boys. But everytime you see the movie screen, you can see their hats, even though that would not be possible.
