This page contains trivia for "Korn's Groovy Pirate Ghost Mystery". Remember, trivia must be factual, provable, and it is always best to cite your source for not-so-obvious trivia. If you would like to dispute a trivia point, please discuss it in the talk page.

Trivia

  • In this episode, Cartman's mother receives an Antonio Banderas Blowup Doll. This doll can be seen in many future episodes.
  • The members of Korn provide their own voices for this episode. They also used the episode for the world premiere of their single "Falling Away from Me".
  • This episode marks the first speaking appearance of The 6th Graders. They are called 5th Graders here, but after the grade change in "Fourth Grade" they are renamed 6th Graders.
  • This is the last Halloween special until "Hell on Earth 2006". This is the only Halloween special with guest stars. Also, the Halloween version of the show's intro is used for the last time here.
  • The disclaimer is redesigned from this episode onwards.
  • Alabama Man makes an appearance in the toy magazine. The toy would later be seen in a commercial in "Chinpokomon".
  • In the graveyard is an open grave with a headstone that reads Kenny - 2000.
    • In another shot there's another grave that reads Kenny - 1999.
  • Kenny's lines in the intro are the same as in Seasons 1 and 2 because the Halloween intro was completely reused.
  • The argument over whether or not the ghosts are Pirate Ghosts or Ghost Pirates was an actual debate between Korn, Matt Stone, and Trey Parker.

References to Popular Culture

  • This episode is a parody of the classic cartoon series Scooby-Doo, and has Korn portrayed with the same personalities of the Mystery Inc. group (even using 60's phrases such as "Groovy"), and even riding in a van designed similarly to the Mystery Machine.
    • The trap is sprung in a similar way as in Scooby-Doo, with the cast splitting up into two teams. Each team has its own adventure to chase the 'ghost' into being captured.
    • Korn's trap consists of everyday objects, similar to Fred's traps from Scooby-Doo.
  • Niblit is a parody of assorted Hannah-Barbara animal sidekicks such as Gleek of the Super-Friends and Jabber-Jaw.
  • Kenny's death at the end is a reference to how the AT-AT walkers were taken down in The Empire Strikes Back. This does not appear in abridged versions.
  • Cartman's celebrating of Christmas even though it is Halloween may be a reference to how many stores begin putting out Christmas season items almost right after Halloween.
  • Korn are also animated in a similar style to the Scooby Doo episodes. Their van also does the same 'bouncing' animation the Mystery Machine does. Some of the BGM used when Korn are around is the same music often used in Scooby Doo episodes too.
  • The cemetery managers' description of the defiling of Kyle's dead grandma is taken from the movie Necromatik.
  • Kenny's costume is a replica of ED-209 from Robocop (as it happens, an ED-209 happened to malfunction in Robocop, causing the death of someone called Kinney).

Continuity

Goofs

  • When Cartman is choosing everything he wants for Christmas, he tells his mom she has 72 more shopping days; there are only 55 days from Halloween to Christmas. Cartman's error could be due to his lack of knowledge.
  • When Korn and the boys are discussing the plans, Kenny with his Halloween costume walks at the other side of the lake. When they split up in teams, Kenny suddenly stands at the group again. Kenny may have simply caught up.
  • Kyle's grandmother's tombstone read "Cleo Broflovski" even though it is said that she is Sheila's mother. Broflovski is Gerald's surname.
  • When Stan said "BOO!" while scaring the 5th graders, his mouth didn't move.

Kenny’s Death

  • (In the credits) Kenny is destroyed by a snow speeder while wearing an ED-209 costume.
