Trivia

  • The three calligraphy scrolls hanging at the back of the training gym in China contain typical Chinese swear phrases. They are "操你老妈", meaning "fuck you mom"; "野种", meaning "bastard", and "她妈的", which means "her mom's".
  • There is no condition named Conjoined Twin Myslexia. There is a condition, parasitic twins, in which two fetuses develop into a single viable human being. The vestigial fetus is either absorbed into the host's body ("fetus in fetu") or develops externally. The latter condition is usually treated with pre- or neonatal surgery.
  • In the opening scene, after Clyde gets knocked out, Stan says, "Jordan, Swanson, pull forward! We need backup!" The two who walk forward are now known as Butters and Annie.
  • This is the first episode in which Pip gives in to anger. Previously he is inhumanly forgiving to even the worst abuse.
  • Kenny wears the number 69 on his jersey, a reference to the infamous Kama Sutra position heavily referenced in media.
  • Cartman wears number 325, the biggest number on the team, referencing his large weight.
  • The Chinese Announcers made a brief cameo at the end of South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut in the crowd scene.

    Shitty Wok

A similar-looking Chinese man appears in Conjoined Fetus Lady. Possibly another alter-ego.

  • The Chinese Announcer is the head boss of South Park Let's Go Tower Defense Play!
  • The "Oh my god! They killed Kenny!" gag was slightly modified for this episode - since Kyle had been hit in the groin and the face by the dodgeballs, his "You bastards!" line ended up being weakly said, rather than shouted as usual.
  • The Chinese commentator to the right hand side is similar in voice and appearance to Tuong Lu Kim, the City Wok owner, but his eyes are different.
  • In the audience during South Park's first dodgeball game against the Cougars, Sharon Marsh can be seen with black hair instead of brown hair.
  • This is the first time we see Ms. Crabtree without the bird in her hair.
  • In this episode Cartman says, "My mom says there's a lot of black people in China." this is a nod to episode 3 from season 1, Volcano, when Cartman says, "My mom says there's a lot of black people in Africa."

References to Popular Culture

  • Nurse Gollum is an obvious reference to the hideously deformed hobbit in The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
  • In the book of Freaks A-Z, that Kyle's mom shows the boys, one of the pictures is a meld of Micky Dolenz and Mike Nesmith, of the Monkees.
  • Nurse Gollum got her degree at Colorado State.
  • Chef covers up for calling Ms. Crabtree a ho by telling her he's always wanted to go to Prague in the Czech Republic.
  • Thanks to a prank by the boys, Ms. Crabtree crashes their bus into the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. It was erected November 13, 1982, to commemorate all the soldiers who died in the Vietnam War.
  • The advanced state-of-the-art training done by the Chinese dodge balls players, and US/Chinese competition is a slight parody of Rocky IV, where Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) battles the USSR super-boxer Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren). Much like the former USSR, China is a communist nation.
  • Cartman's line "Sure! Captain Ahab has to get his whale, huh?" is an almost direct quote from Star Trek: First Contact, which in turn is a reference to Herman Melville's novel Moby-Dick.
  • One of the Chinese commentators states that he hasn't seen an American die like that since Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States. He was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth on April 15, 1865.
  • A golden version of Orgazmo is mounted on top of the World Champion dodgeball trophy.

Goofs

  • When Annie is shown standing next to Pip, her hair appears a little darker. Then when she is shown with a few students in the class her hair is back to its regular color.

Kenny's Death

Smashed into a wall by a ball thrown during the world dodgeball championship in China. Stan says his usual catch phrase. Kyle says his, albeit with a weak voice, having taken damage from a dodgeball.

Hidden Visitor(s)

  • At the South Park vs. Denver dodgeball tournament, there are Olympic posters of a batter, a runner, a basketball player, and a soccer player. When Chef reminds Pip to take out the last Denver player the runner is replaced by a tennis playing visitor.
