"Christmas Time is Once a Year" is a song sung in the Season Eight episode, "Woodland Critter Christmas". The song is sung three times in the episode; once at the beginning, once as the Mountain Lion Cubs are learning how to do abortions, and once during the credits.

Background

The melody is taken from the song "I Believe in Santa Claus"[1] from the Rankin Bass 1974 special The Year Without a Santa Claus[2] The narrator informs Stan Marsh that he has to bring the lion cubs to the abortion clinic, and transport him and the cubs to the clinic, so they can learn how to kill the Anti-Christ. After a brief exchange with the abortion doctor, he happily agrees and begins teaching the cubs, as Christmas music plays.

After the story concludes, and Stan celebrates "the best Christmas ever for the boy in the red poofball hat", Kyle Broflovski is shown in the hospital, where he dies from AIDS caused by the abortion he received by the lion cubs. Kyle berates Eric Cartman for the story's ending and the credits roll, as the Christmas music from before plays.

South Park: The Stick of Truth

The song reappears thrice in South Park: The Stick of Truth, when the player gets a fake abortion from the same doctor, when the player gives Randy a fake abortion, and while the player is aborting the snuke in Mr. Slave 's stomach.

Lyrics

First Version:

Christmas time is once a year.
Every critter holds it dear.
Every animal big or small,
Christmas means so much to us all.

Second Version:
Christmas time is once a year.
Every critter holds it dear.
Every animal big or small,
Christmas means so much to us all.
It's once a year, it's Christmas time!
And it happens once a year.
It's once a year, it's Christmas time!
When we hear about how Christmas only comes
Once a year.

Third Version:
Christmas time is once a year.
Every creature holds it dear.
Every animal big or small,
Christmas means the world to us all.
It's once a year, it's Christmas time!
When we hear about how Christmas only comes
Once a year.
