[edit] Plot
In a classic cliffhanger, Cartman needs to find out who his father is but his mom is no help. Learning that his father could be one of the many people that his mom "had relations" with during an annual party called "The Drunken Barn Dance", he finds that there's more to his mother then he thought.
Based on everyone's best recollections of the time, candidates for the identity of Cartman's father are limited to Officer Barbrady, Chef, Jimbo, Ned, Mr. Garrison, Chief Running Water, Gerald Broflovski, Dr. Mephisto, Kevin, and the 1991 Denver Broncos. Dr. Mephisto is willing to perform DNA testing to resolve the issue, but requires $3,000 for the test. In the meantime, Kyle, Kenny, and Stan videotape Cartman having a tea party in his backyard with stuffed animals. They come up with the idea to send the video into America's Stupidest Home Videos for the chance to win $10,000. Cartman then approaches Kyle and Stan (Kenny was since killed by a train) with the depressing news about his lack of funds to find out his real father. Stan and Kyle agree that if they win the video contest they will give Cartman the $3,000 needed for the DNA testing. Cartman is overjoyed, but quickly becomes extremely angry after seeing the aired video. The narrator concludes the episode with a cliffhanging question "Who is Eric Cartman's father?"
The storyline was resolved in Cartman's Mom is Still a Dirty Slut.
[edit] Kenny's Death
Kenny is dragged around the bus stop area hanging onto an out-of-control go-cart, but lands perfectly safely. Unfortunately, he comes to a stop right on the train tracks, where a train soon runs him over. The death is videotaped by Stan's grandpa and is one of the three $10,000 finalists on America's Stupidest Home Videos. On a side note he uses the same go-cart in the video game South Park Rally and in the opening sequence of the game he runs out of gas on the train tracks and a train runs him over similar to how he died in this episode.
[edit] Trivia
- When Mrs. Cartman and Chef were in the hay pile and Mr. Garrison emerged: Chef immediately knew who he was (yelling out "Garrison!"), but Chef was new to the town and therefore it would be highly unlikely that he would know who Mr. Garrison was. Since Garrison was not originally from South Park either (coming from Arkansas originally) it's possible, however unlikely that Chef knew Garrison before they moved to South Park.
- America's Stupidest Home Videos is an obvious parody of America's Funniest Home Videos.
- In the background of Mr. Mackey's office it says "Father and Son Day Coming Soon", "Dads are Dandy" and "If You Don't Have a Dad, You're a Bastard".
- Weeks after the episode's premiere, Bob Saget was interviewed on The Daily Show with Craig Kilborn. Although he felt offended when he first heard saw the episode, he later indicated that he got the joke.
- Stan mentions that Bob Saget is almost as bad as the guy on Full House. Bob Saget is, in fact, an actor in Full House.
- Cartman's dolls go by the names of Clyde Frog, Peter Panda, Rumpertumskin and Polly Prissypants.
- The music playing during Cartman's tea-party scenes is based on Pachelbel's Canon in D
- Cartman has a three-finger ring that reads "PIE."
- The Denver Broncos appearing in the episode are mentioned twice, each time, as a different team. Once they are from 1989, and once from 1991. They are also referred to as AFC Champions, which they were in 1989.
- Jay Leno voices Cartman's kitty.
- When Cartman enters Chef's house, he is wearing white shoes, but by the time he enters the house, they are black.
- In The Unaired Pilot Episode of South Park Eric states " It's supper time and my mom is probably worried!" the scene was cut to a dinner table seating a man (dad), girl (sister), sand Liane comes on. Indicating Eric a dad but he was cut (along with his sister)
[edit] Quotes
Cartman: Mom, can I ask you a question?
Ms. Cartman: Sure, hon.
Cartman: You know how my friend Stan has, like, a dad?
Ms. Cartman: Uh-huh.
Cartman: And my friend Kyle has a dad, and my friend Kenny has a dad?
Ms. Cartman: Yes?
[long pause]
Ms. Cartman: Well, what's your question, hon?
Cartman: Goddamn it, do I have a dad?!
Ms. Cartman: Oh!
Cartman: I wanna know where I came from.
Ms. Cartman: Oh. Hmm. Well, you see, Eric, sometimes when a man and a woman are attracted to each other, they want to be close to each other.
Cartman: Uh-huh....
Ms. Cartman: And sometimes the man puts his hoo-hoo dilly into a woman's cha-cha.
[long pause]
Cartman: So who put his hoo-hoo dilly into your cha-cha?
Ms. Crabtree: Get on this bus right now! We're running late!
Stan: We're not going, you fat ugly bitch.
Ms. Crabtree: What did you say?
Stan: I said we're not going, you fat ugly bitch.
Ms. Crabtree: Oh. Okay.(drives off)
Kyle: Whoa dude!
Stan: I always wondered if that would work.
Chief Running Water: I knew that she wanted me because she kept saying romantic things.
Ms. Cartman: Oh, Chief, I want your hot man-chowder.
Chief Running Water: Whoa, hello!
Chief Running Water: I hate to break this to you, but your mother is what we native american refer to as "Bear, with wide canyon"
Cartman: Huh?
Chief Running Water: She is doh who cannot keep legs together.
Cartman: What?
Chief Running Water: Your mom's a slut.
Cartman: Oi!
Cartman: I was just hangin' out in the SPC, kickin' it with some homies on the west sy-eed.
Kyle: Cartman, you live on the east side!
