Randy Marsh treating alcoholism as a disease.

Alcoholics Anonymous  is a support group for people with substance and alcohol addiction. This group appeared prominently in the Season Nine episode, "Bloody Mary".

Randy Marsh is arrested for drinking while driving and is court ordered to attend the Alcoholics Anonymous support group for two weeks. The other members convince him he has a disease, which then causes him to believe his alcoholism is a terminal illness. He begins using a wheelchair and uses his new disease as an excuse for his alcohol abuse.

Each meeting consists of alcoholics relating tragic stories caused by their addiction. They adhere to a notion of the alcoholic being powerless to cure himself, and the only way is through the acceptance of a "higher power". The group uses a twelve step system of support to become alcohol and substance abuse free.
